Richard W. Paterno was born on
May 16, 1913 and lived a good life
with fun as a youth visiting Croton
on the Hudson, riding motorcycles
in his late teens and early 20s,
running dances, and growing up
in the 20th century. He raised his
family in the middle years and he
worked 37 years at ESNA in Union
as an engineer retiring in 1978. He
was married to Helena and they had
two sons Ronald (born 1947) and
David (1957), with Helen passing on
Christmas Day 1999.
Richard was an excellent father,
a great thinker, a solid citizen,
and good Catholic, and always
stood up for what was right and just.
"Old daddy" suffered various health
issues, but survived them and he
remained strong at a defiant 91 years
old, until he was struck down by
an SUV on his son David's 47th
Birthday (August 9th, 2004 ) on a street in
Roselle Park, NJ. He was hit at 4:25pm
(four years after Helen died on 25th)
at 47% of crossing (47th birthday of
David) and after 17 feet into street...
he died on August 17, 2004....
