MAJOR COASTAL BLIZZARD STRIKES
NYC, NJ ON FEB.11-12, 2006 WITH
STRONG WINDS, LIGHTNING AND
RECORD-BREAKING SNOWFALL...

STORM FORMS "EYE" OFFSHORE
AS HEADS FOR NEW ENGLAND..

The blizzard of February 2006 dropped record amounts of

snow on the tri-state area, with an astonding 26.9" snow

at Central Park, NYC breaking the previous record set

in 1947. 21.3" fell at Newark, Nj and 24.6" in Roselle, NJ.

The blizzard was accompanied by lightning and strong

winds which were 40-60mph in gusts. The storm occurred

on a Sunday which helped the cleanup effort in the state

and NYC.

This blizzard occurred after a record mild January, and

boosted the snowfall totals to near the 40" mark, close

to the previous three snowy winters in the east.
